A chilly day spent in Rocky Mountain National Park. Went all the way up Trail Ridge, above 12,000 feet, where the wind was whipping and a light snow was blowing at this high altitude.     After coming back down through Moraine Park, the magic light began to happen.

This was a part of NANPA’s Nature Photography Day. I headed up the Cache la Poudre canyon to see what might catch my eye. Came across this bolder sticking up and it seemed to be fighting the river currents.

I am fortunate enough to see this small herd of paint horses nearly every day. The foals were barely a few days old when I photographed them.   I felt that the “Into the Wind” image needed a special sepia tone treatment.

The sun refused to shine this morning.   Rain and a little bit of snow began to fall in the Poudre Canyon.  A short drive on Stove Prairie Road and the fog became extremely dense. Visibility was only about 40 yards, but this is my kind of weather.

Early morning drive up to Rocky Mountain Park to see what I could capture at Bear Lake. They had gotten 4′ of fresh snow in the past three days. The storm had finally passed and the forecast for clear skies was good. However, the sunrise was a little diffused. I found my way out on Bear Lake standing in deep snow waiting for the sun to rise. The crescent moon caught my attention and I swung  tripod around to focus on the treeline. The snow in the morning light created some amazing lighting on the fresh powder.

A return trip to capture sunrise at RMNP. I hiked part of the way up Green Mountain to get a grand view of “The Diamond” on Longs Peak.  An amazing sight when the morning light hits.  Several inches of fresh snow had covered everything in the park the night before.

Spend a couple days down in Colorado Springs hiking and shooting around Garden of the Gods. Hoping for clear skies and some nice warm sunlight, as always. Didn’t quite get that, but I’ll take whatever nature gives me. I was able to catch the last rays of sunlight hitting the Garden, just before it set behind Pikes Peak. Plus, an interesting angle from the ridgeline east of the Garden.
